Cultural Narrative:

Lucy Friedlander met John Covington at the Civilian Conservation Corps projects set up on the Colville Indian Reservation in 1933. John met Lucy's brother, George Friedlander who was helping to teach young Tribal Members how to use heavy equipment to build roads.  Lucy was hired as a Cook's helper by a prominent Nespelem Restaurant Owner who had been contracted to provide meals to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Trainees attending the Camp. George introduced Lucy to John and they eventually married on April 11, 1936. Contributed by Yvette Joseph, MSW and Confederated Colville Tribes member.
