Indian Bills Cause Furor

Summary:
Senator David C. McMillan faces uproar from tribal members and press regarding SB 478. Article from the Omak Chronicle, 3/2/67.
Description:

The Oroville chamber of commerce announced a Senate Bill 478, seeking to give authority of the Colville reservation to state civil and criminal law enforcement. The bill was made without consulting the Colville tribal council, who believe it will only confuse the current law enforcement system. McMillan holds that the outrage stems from "ulterior motives", not understanding the tribal opinion that their law enforcement system should not be further muddled.
